What's the thoughts on using a kit like this:

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crn-52655-16

It's been around for years, but I don't have any experience with it myself. As I understand it, it lets you run roller rockers on heads that have pedestal style rockers originally (like Clevelands). Guess you'd need longer pushrods, too?

I'm sure it's *better* to have the heads machined for screw in studs, but is this a reasonable solution to run roller rocker arms? It sure looks cheaper than having the machine work done.

Thanks!

The crane kit is limited to 320 pounds of open spring pressure.

I have a set new in the box , sealed plastic bag( Crane) for $100 shipped to the lower 48. I paid $143 and just want them to go to someone who can use them. I ended up going to aluminum heads and don't need them now. PM if interested. I have used these in the past with good results as long as the spring pressure rules are followed.

I still run the kit on my 362c I pulled out to replace with my 359c. Nothing real special: flat top engine with Aussie 2v heads, comp 282s cam (236/236 @.05 .570/.570 lift and I think my lash is at .020) Weiand Excellerator 2v intake and 750 Mighty Demon. Never had a problem and surprisingly when I checked the roller tip angle on the valve stem, they were all dead center and I didnt do anything custom. Just be ready to do some clearancing in the pedestal mount on the head. I had to clean up the casting to allow the guide plate to sit flush on the pedestal. Also, dont over torque them. My first kit went in fine back in 1999 when I put them on the stock 2v heads. Then I took the kit out so I could put the Aussie 2v heads on. So I was putting them in and on my first stud - snap- I forgot the torque is only 25# for that 5/16 bolt. Yep, I had to pull that head back off - bring to the machine shop to have it removed. Luckily I had good friends and it didnt cost me anything.
Good luck - Matt
